The Charles R. Farr papers, 1861-1865.

Contains the following types of materials: diary, rolls, official papers. Contains information pertaining to the following war and time period: Civil War -- Eastern Theater. Contains information pertaining to the following military unit: 1st Vermont Cavalry Regiment. General description of the collection: The Charles Russell Farr papers include a diary for 1864 which covers his service with the 1st Vermont Cavalry Regiment in the Shenandoah Valley (Aug. 11-Oct 22, 1864) and during the return to Vermont of those of his company who did not reenlist (Oct 23-Nov. 8 1864). Some entries were made during the last part of the war and a few center around his service at the dismounted cavalry camp in Washington and consist mostly of names of other men in the camp. Some references are made to defense measures against Jubal Early's advance in July. At the end of the volume is a list of the regiment's engagements from 1861-1865. Other items include muster rolls fo Company F plus Farr's personal discharge papers (Nov. 18, 1864).
